Some nice satellite image services that I found:
Satellite services? Television broadcast
Services – satellite television broadcast.
What are satellites?
Satellites are small object in orbit around the larger objects. The Moon is actually a satellite orbiting the Earth. The Moon is a natural satellite, but today when we talk about satellites we mean human made machines orbiting Earth for a variety of purposes.
Satellite services – what are satellites used for?
There is a large variety of satellite services. Satellites can be used for military purposes, weather, navigation (GPS), communication (data transmission), internet and much more.
One of the most frequent uses of satellites for transmission of TV channels around the world.
3 types of satellites
Satellites orbiting the Earth. There are 3 types of satellites, classified according to the distance of Earth from orbit.
Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite orbits Earth – this at a distance of miles. 160-480, because it is so close to earth needs to orbit at a fast speed to prevent Earth's gravity to pull it. LEO satellites move at a speed of approximately 28,000 kilometres per hour and can finish an orbit around the Earth in about an hour and a half.
Medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites orbit the Earth – this at a distance of 9000-18000 km. These are mainly communication satellites over North and South poles. Their patter of orbit is oval. Because these satellites are beyond the Earth from the first group there is a need for monitoring systems down here on Earth in order to keep track of these satellites.
Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites orbit the Earth – this at a distance of 35.60 km from Earth and orbit at the same speed as the earth rotates around itself. This means that the satellite is stationary over the same position all the time. Usually there is a need for three different GEO satellites to cover the whole earth (not taking into consideration the Poles). These satellites are mainly used for constant communication or satellite weather services.
As the satellites broadcast TV channels?
Television programs originate from a study of broadcasting, could be a live broadcast or tape a television program. The program is translated into a signal. The signal is transmitted to the satellite with a process called – uplink. When it is received at the satellite, the signal is transmitted to another satellite by a process called turnaround, or is transmitted back to Earth via a process called downlink. When a signal is down back grounded are received by a satellite dish that we all know.
Because of all the process of linking and down linking, there is a delay of a few seconds. This is why viewers of a cable channel you will see a few seconds before that viewers of satellite channel.
